There is some background smoking by extras in the party scene mentioned, but not by either lead actress. Carter has only one scene, about 1:25 in, in which she takes two deliciously long drags, with her trademark French inhales, in a restaurant. Unfortunately it's shot from some distance and her exhales are invisible due to lighting. Considering the film takes place in the 30s and 40s, and her character is something of a bohemian, that's insufficient, an almost complete waste of smoking talent."
